The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has warned the public against falling prey to scammers who demand monies for double returns in quick-yielding financial investments.
Managing Director and Chief Executive of the NSITF, Barr. Bayo Somefun, gave the warning in Abuja, stressing that the Fund only registers organisations and companies as subscribers for its Employees Compensation Scheme (ECS), and not individuals.
Somefun said that the warning had become necessary again after reports have emerged of individuals being duped of their monies by unscrupulous persons using his name, photograph, as well as logo and images of the NSITF.
In a statement issued by the Corporate Affairs Department of the NSITF, Somefun explained that the Fund offers compensation in cash and kind to workers who suffer injury, disability or death in the course of their official duties, provided their employers are registered under the ECS, as mandated by law.
Any organisation, public or private, with up to two or more casual and/or full-time workers, is mandated by the Employees Compensation Act of 2010 to subscribe with the NSITF, Somefun stated.
He further pointed out that the compensation can cover medical expenses, equipment, prosthetics, hearing aids, wheelchairs, and similar assistance, as well as a substantial percentage of salaries and upkeep allowances to surviving employees or dependants in cases of death.
Somefun reiterated that at no time or in any circumstance does the NSITF demand monies to be doubled for any individuals or organisations, even as he enjoined the public to immediately report any such demands or persons engaged in the nefarious activities to nearby security agencies or offices of the Fund, which are found in every state of the Federation.
The NSITF boss disclosed that the Department of State Service and the police have arrested some culprits over the fraudulent use of NSITF name. The suspects are undergoing investigation and prosecution while the security agencies are on the watch for any more criminal infractions.
He also gave out the official website, email, phones number and social media handles of the Fund as follows: (website: www.nsitf.gov.ng; email: info@nsitf.gov.ng; telephone number: 09-2918900).
This is to enable the public access further information, make enquiries and report any fraudulent activities.
