Zango Kataf 1992 crisis: Atyapp ethnic group kicks as Kaduna govt raises fresh white paper
The Atyap Community Development Association (ACDA) in Zangon Kataf Local Government has raised concern over the decision of the Kaduna State Government to raise a fresh White Paper decades after the earlier exercise and related actions by successive administrations on the bloody crisis of 1992.
The ethnic group has, therefore, called on the Malam Nasir el-Rufai led-government to, rather, implement both the Justice Rahila Kudjoe and Air Vice Marshal Usman Muazu reconciliation committee reports.
These reports, the group insisted, could be the best solution to end the recurrent killings in the area.
At a media briefing in Kaduna, weekend, the Atyap Secretary General, Sule Bodam, regretted the decision of the present state government to consider another white paper on the crisis, describing it as counter-productive.
Bodam recalled that most of the recommendations from the various reports have been implemented by successive governments since 1995.
He, therefore, faulted the state government’s claim that no white paper was drafted since the two reconciliation committees were set up in the past.
He noted that what was remaining from the two reports was the creation of buffer zone, the creation of irrigation project as well as the creation Attak jeil layout which was approved by the former governor of the state, Arch Namadi Sambo in 2010
“What did el-Rufa’i government seeks to achieve by drafting a White paper over a report whose recommendations were implemented by the federal and Kaduna state governments and on which other remaining issues have been overtaken by events, unless the el-Rufai administration has other ulterior motives for setting up its White paper Committee,” the group wondered.
