The 42nd session of the southern conference of the United Methodist Church (UMC) has ended with a vow by the church not to take part in the legalization of the LGBTQ otherwise known as samesex marriage.

The declaration took place at the UMC Zing district, Taraba State at the end of a week-long annual conference of the church.

The presiding officer, Rev. Dr. Philip Micah Dopah alongside Rev. James Vocks and conference secretary, Rev. Ezekiel John Lantoya, signed on behalf of the church, declaring that UMC can not and will never be part of LGBTQ.

In the resolution, delegates unanimously endorsed and appointed Rev. Micah Dopah as dean of cabinet of the southern conference of UMC by the interim Bishop John  Schol, other resolutions included creation of more church districts zones and establishment of health service delivery (College of Nursing and Midwifery) among others.

Meanwhile, in the communiqué the church called President Bola Tinibu’s led administration and other stakeholders to revisit  the issue of subsidy removal and reintroduce fuel subsidy in order to minimize the hardship Nigerians are currently witnessing and insecurity  across board.

Other challenging areas raised in the communiqué also include unemployment, sustainability, climate change effect on national food security, disaster relief and support for rural communities among sundry issues raised at the conference.
