Chief Medical Director of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, Nasarawa State, Dr. Ikrama Hassan, has appealed to the joint unions of medical and health workers in the hospital to put humanity first by calling off the one-week warning strike their members embarked upon since last Monday.
Making the appeal during a press briefing in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on Wednesday, Ikrama noted that the warning strike at the precarious period of a global pandemic was wrongly timed.
According to him, the state government had made an offer to implement 40 percent out of the 50 percent Special COVID-19 hazard and inducement allowance initiated by the Federal Government to cushion the hardship of health workers who are in the front line in the treatment and management of the pandemic.
The CMD pointed out that the increasing health needs of the citizens of the state called for a collective effort, patience and understanding, thus the need for the striking workers to shift grounds and return to work for the interest of the people.
The Chief Medical Director stated that adequate arrangements had been put in place to attend to COVID-19 patients on admission in the hospital.
ExpressDay reports that six different unions at the Nasarawa State owned Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Lafia had last Monday declared a one week warning strike to demand for payment of COVID-19 special hazard and inducement allowance among other issues surrounding their welfare.
As at the time of filing this report, Nasarawa State had 113 confirmed cases of COVID-19, over 700 test conducted and four deaths.
