
Nigerian Army trooper, Azunna Maduabuchi, who killed his commanding officer some months ago in Maiduguri, Borno State, has been condemned to died by firing squad.
This is according to the verdict of a court-martial on Tuesday, which tried and sentenced him after the offence.
Maduabuchi shot and killed Lieutenant Babakaka Ngorgi, in July 2020 for refusing to grant him a welfare pass.
He was thereafter arrested and arraigned for murder. He is now to face death by firing squad as he was found guilty at the court session held at the Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
Channels Television reports that the military court relied on Section 106 of the Armed Forces Act in passing the judgement on Tuesday, when four other soldiers were arraigned for manslaughter and sentenced to various years of imprisonment.
Another of the soldiers on trial, one Sergeant Sani Ishaya, was sentenced to four years; Bidemi Fabiyi sentenced to two years while Private Musa Bala and Private Abdulraheed Adamu were sentenced to one-year imprisonment each.
