The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room (Situation Room) has announced the death of its convener, Barrister Esther Uzoma.
The Situation Room is made up of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) working in support of credible and transparent elections in Nigeria numbering more than seventy.
Late Uzoma was also National Coordinator of Proactive Gender Initiative.
In a statement signed by the Co-conveners of the Situation Room, Asma’u Joda and Celestine Okwudili Odo, in Abuja, Thursday, the group said: “Esther Uzoma died on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, following a surgery at a hospital in Abuja.
“Esther was very energetic and a committed human rights and gender activist and has been in the forefront of driving Nigeria’s democratic reforms.
“She will be sorely missed by all who came in contact with her.
“The family will make further announcements on burial arrangements.”
