After two hours of a rigorous question and answer session, the Senate on Wednesday confirmed the nomination of Abdulrasheed Bawa for appointment as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The screening and confirmation were done in plenary and was presided over by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.
Bawa was grilled by about 15 senators who asked him various questions ranging from his experiences, his relationship with his predecessors as well as his plans for the new position.
During the exercise, he denied the allegation of selling recovered properties while heading the EFCC’s Port Harcourt office and said he enjoyed a good relationship with his predecessors.
He also promised to give priority to high profile cases of corruption in the country.
The confirmation came a week after President Muhammadu Buhari conveyed a letter to the Senate seeking Bawa’s confirmation as the EFCC boss.
