Chairman, Senate Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa/ NEPAD, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani has described the death of Enugu State Commissioner for Health, Professor Anthony Ugochukwu as a big blow to the fight against COVID-19, the state and the nation.
Senator Nnamani lamented that late Ugochukwu ; a foremost Surgeon and former Provost, College of Medicine, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) died when his services were most needed.
The former Governor of Enugu Sate regretted that “the demise of Professor Ugochukwu at this time is heart- rending As an experienced medical teacher and an outstanding surgeon, he would have been a ready hand towards finding solution to the intractable health challenges especially on the rampaging COVID-19 pandemic.
“We cannot question the will of the Almighty God besides the fact that death is a necessary end that must come when it shall, but Professor Ugochukwu’s exit at this time is akin to one death that is more than a thousand fell in a pogrom”.
Senator Nnamani recalled Professor Ugochukwu’s immense contributions to the development of ESUT Medical School , his professional and uncommon touch as Health Commissioner and regretted that “we have lost one of our best”.
He however urged the immediate family, the government and people of Enugu State to take solace in the fact that Professor Ugochukwu left an enviable legacy of professionalism and integrity anyone will be proud of.
Professor Ugochukwu was said to have passed on at a private medical facility in Enugu after a brief illness.
