Two people have been macheted and killed by armed robbers in Pegi area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Two of the suspected armed robbers, have however, been arrested by police operatives attached to the Pegi Division in the FCT.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, Bala Ciroma, has since launched a discreet investigation into the incident to unravel those behind the incident.
A statement by the Deputy Spokesman to the FCT Command, Yusuf Mariam (ASP), however, refuted the rumours making the round in the social media that 4 persons have been killed by kidnappers in Kabi Mangoro of Pegi axis.
According to the statement, “the FCT Police Command refutes the misleading message being circulated in the social media claiming that “Bandits/Kidnappers killed 4 Persons at Kabi Mangoro of Pegi axis”.
“On the contrary, the FCT Police Command swiftly responded to a distress call today December 29, 2019, and arrested 2 suspected armed robbers at a robbery scene in Gbogu Village along Kabi Mangoro road at Pegi.
“The Police Operatives attached to Pegi Division were instantly deployed to the scene where they apprehended the 2 suspects and disarmed them.
“Unfortunately, 2 victims of the robbery were killed following deep machete wounds inflicted on them by the suspects.”
The statement assured that efforts have been intensified to arrest the remaining suspects art large.
The FCT Commissioner of the Police, CP Ciroma, in the statement commiserated with the families of the deceased persons and urged residents of the capital city to remain calm.
He reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property within the Federal Capital Territory.
