The Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District of Nasarawa State, Dr. Tanko Al-Makura, on Thursday disbursed undisclosed amount of money to residents of his constituency to support them during the Ramadan fast.
Speaking at an event in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, Thursday, he explained that what motivated him was the fact that residents of his constituency, especially the Muslim folks will soon commence the Ramadan fasting in a period the federal and state governments have placed restrictions on movement to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
“We are under a trying period that I know most of my fellow brothers and sisters are in dear need of support despite my intervention a day ago.
“This is why I decided to support them with cash, knowing that there are those that may not be reached with the previous intervention due to the severe hardship citizens are faced with at this trying moment in the history of the country.
“I have decided also to be unrelenting in doing this to ensure that during this lockdown, less privileged residents of my constituency and even beyond are relieved of whatever hardship they are going through,” Al-Makura stated.
It would be recalled that on Wednesday, Senator Al-Makura distributed 3000 bags of rice to the 53 electoral wards of the Southern Senatorial Zone of Nasarawa state.
Thousands of beneficiaries from the zone interviewed by Expressday, applauded the Senator, saying it was an incomparable intervention mostly at the period of the pandemic which coincided with the Ramadan fast of Muslim followers.
