The Police Service Commission (OSC) has approved the promotion of 6,618 senior police officers to their next ranks.
A statement by the PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed that the promotions were one of the highpoints of the 8th Plenary Meeting of the Commission which spanned a period of three weeks, and ended on Wednesday, July 1st, 2020.
According to the statement, one Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Olushola Oyebade, currently at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Jos, was promoted to the next rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) to represent the South West geopolitical zone.
Four Commissioners of Police (CPs) including one specialist, was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
The Commission also approved the promotion of three Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the next rank of substantive Commissioners of Police (CPs).
Eight Superintendents of Police (SPs) were elevated to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSPs).
“607 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) were also elevated to the rank of Superintendents of Police (SPs).
“The Commission also promoted 206 Assistant Superintendents (ASPs) of Police to Deputy Superintendents (DSPs).
“It also promoted 5,786 Inspectors to Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP),” the statement noted.
