Amid hunger protests rocking the country, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Umar Ganduje, says these are expected temporary obstacles that will herald better days, as President Bola Tinubu is working round the clock to reform the economy for good.
The chairman gave the assurance when a group of APC chieftains from the United States of America, led by Prof. Adesegun Labinjo, paid him a courtesy visit at the national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.
Ganduje pointed out that the upheaval being experienced in Nigeria was not peculiar as even developed nations were passing through a similar phase
“Even the so-called developed economies, they have their turbulence in one way or the other. So, it’s not surprising that Nigeria is having its own shell of the problem. This is not the first time.
“Whenever there is a reform agenda, obstacles must be on the way, as a result, people must suffer in one way or the other. But, in the long run, everything will be according to the plan. We are aware that our president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, came in to introduce reforms.
“Unless you have strong institutions, you will find it difficult to implement whatever good policies you have. He’s working very hard on the economy and very soon we will see positive results”, the party chairman said of Tinubu’s efforts to reposition the nation’s economy.
The leader of the APC from America, Prof. Adesegun Labinjo, said his team came to Nigeria in solidarity with President Tinubu, the party leadership and the country, amid the protests.
“We are glad to pay you this courtesy visit in support of the great way you have been leading this our party. We cherish you and admire your leadership style. We acknowledge your role as our leader.
“We said since this country is facing turbulence at this time, we’re going there to show our support for our president, for the national leadership of our party and for our great country.
“In spite of the discouragement, we insisted on coming. In face of all the turmoil that they projected will happen or is happening, we’re here to support our president, to support Dr Ganduje and to support our country and national leaders”, Labinjo said on behalf of the delegation.
