Protesting workers of the Transmission Company of Nigeria have crippled Nigeria’s electricity national grid leaving the entire country in blackout.

The workers under the eagis of the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, are on strike following the decision of the TCN Board to subject all Principal Managers who are on acting capacity to promotion interview.

The protesting workers who blocked the entrance to TCN building in Abuja stopped workers of the Federal Ministry of Power from entering their offices.

The Federal Government had tried to ward off the strike by appealing to the workers to give it two weeks to resolve the issues.

Other issues raised by the workers include the “stigmatization of staff from the office of the Head Service of the Federation from working in other areas in the power sector.

“Refusal of the Market Operator to fund the payment of entitlement of ex-PHCN staff as agreed in December 2019 agreement after an industrial action by the union”.
