The umbrella body of ex-students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State has asked graduates of tertiary institutions in Nigeria to be responsive to prevailing circumstances in their alma mater.
Specifically, the alumni body charged former students of affected tertiary institutions to get organised and wade into the raging feud between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Speaking with ExpressDay, one of the Administrators of the alumni body, Tunde Moses, said “it is becoming increasingly clear that government alone cannot handle most of the issues that come its way on a daily basis.
“Look at the ASUU debacle for instance. it is continuing unabated. I expect graduates of the federal universities to intervene at this point in time so our children can return to campus”.
While urging ex-student bodies to try to give back to the institutions which groomed them, Chief Iyke Okafor, another Administrator and alumnus said “we are very proud of the Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda. Apart from the knowledge we gained, it instilled the spirit of oneness and brotherhood in us, and it endures till today”.
In her own remarks, Hajia Banke Medinat averred that the togetherness they share in the alumni group is exemplary, arguing that it is the type of love Nigeria so seriously needs to solve its myriad of maladies, as against ethnocentrism and religious bigotry.
“We are one and the same before our Creator. That is our mindset in this alumni body and that is how we encourage the citizens of this country to see themselves even as we prepare for 2023 general elections”, the alumna enthused.
Henry Edozie, a civil servant and graduate of the Polytechnic likened alumni associations to conventional corporate citizens.
He urged them to care for their alma mater and host communities in much the same way as they care for themselves.
“Skills for technological emancipation is the motto of the school. We have acquired the skill, what’s the next thing? We need to give back to Kaura Namoda and the larger society. Government alone cannot provide all the amenities”, he emphasized.
