A team of the Ughelli ‘A’ Division of the Nigeria Police and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), has rescued one Mrs. Joy Etaghogho, a petty trader who was abducted by gunmen in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Delta State Commissioner of Police (CP), Hafiz Inuwa, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Ughelli said the quick intervention of both the Police in ‘A’ Division and members of the Vigilantes Group of Nigeria (VGN), led by their State Commandant, Comrade Monday Ohwesiri led to the rescue of the victim from the kidnappers den.
“We deployed officers to the area immediately and everywhere combed and she was found abandoned at a bush at a Eruemukohwarien community, a close community to Ekiugbo in Ughelli”, he said.
The police boss appealed to members of the public, especially those in the area to always furnish the police with relevant information that could lead to the immediate arrest of the suspect.
Meanwhile, a family source who spoke on condition of anonymity told newsmen in Ughelli that the victim was abducted from her residence at Imohwe Street, Ekiugbo-Ughelli on Saturday.
According to the source, the gunmen stormed the victim’s residence and whisked her away to an unknown destination in a motorcycle.
The source further disclosed that the kidnappers had earlier collected the N129,000 before contacting the family to demand the sum of N2 million.
The victim when contacted, said the abductors came into her room through a manhole.
