The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, FUPRE, Effurun Delta State, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh has appealed to the National Assembly on the inclusion of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, FUPRE, in the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB.

Rim-Rukeh has also assured the lower chamber of FUPRE’s readiness to train manpower for other universities across the country if given its rightful place and included in the PIB, that it will enhance manpower development, research and training.

Speaking during the House of Representative  Adhoc Committee on Petroleum Industry Bill, Prof. Rim-Rukeh stated that FUPRE is the only University mandated by an Act of the National Assembly to train Nigerians for the middle and higher level manpower for the oil and gas industry.

He added that the inclusion of the acronym FUPRE to the Petroleum Industry Bill is very germane and key  to the growth of the Oil and Gas industry. 

Rim-Rukeh appealed that the University be given its due place for management, development and training, saying that this will go a long way in saving a lot of foreign reserved.  

Speaking further, Rim-Rukeh said, “In the past 60 years, Nigeria has depended highly on sending students and workers to foreign agencies abroad for training, but l will assure you that Federal University of Petroleum Resources is prepared to take up this challenge if included in the PIB.

“If both the Petroleum Training Institute and the Federal University of Petroleum Resources is given its due place in the bill, the Institutions will take up the challenge in terms of research, development and training of manpower for other Universities in Nigeria.”
