The group loyal to Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday reportedly pulled out of the campaign council of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
This follows a stalemated meeting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital between both camps, signalling a seeking of the crisis rocking the party since Atiku emerged its flagbearer for 2023 poll.
Reports have it that, members of Wike’s team vowed not to play any role in Atiku’s campaign for the 2023 general elections, insisting that the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu must resign, as they had demanded several times.
Wike had called for Ayu’s resignation following the outcome of the party’s presidential primary won by Atiku.
The group’s main grouse is the alleged pledge by Ayu to step down from his position if a presidential candidate emerged from the North, as it eventually happened, although Ayu has denied he ever made such a promise.
