The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke, as winner of the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday.
Adeleke defeated other candidates, including the incumbent Governor Adegboyega Isiaka Oyeyola of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP candidate polled 403,371 votes to defeat his closest rival, Governor Oyetola, who polled 375,027 votes.
Adeleke also won in 17 Local Government Areas out of 30 in yhe State, while the incumbent governor secured victory in the remaining 13 LGAs.
The Returning Officer of the election, and Vice-Chamcellot of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, announced: “I declare that Adeleke Ademola Jackson Nurudeen of PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected.”
Kehinde Atanda of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) came a distant third with 10,104 votes.
A former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, polled 2,729 votes.
