Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has postponed the virtual meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) slated for Thursday.
State Governors; Central Bank Governor; Ministers of Finance, Federal Capital Territory, Justice; and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation are members of the NEC, chaired by the Vice-President.
The Council deliberates on serious national economic issues as they affect the State and Federal Governments.
The postponement is coming a few hours after President Muhammadu Buhari announced that he would attend the National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which acting chairman of the party, Victor Giadom, fixed for Thursday.
It is believed the postponement is to enable Osinbajo also participate at this meeting of the APC, which many other Governors – of the APC – are also expected to participate in.
In a notice of postponement to governors issued on Wednesday, Secretary to the NEC, Olusola Idowu, said that a new date would be be communicated later.
“The Chairman of Council, His Excellency, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, has directed that the NEC virtual meeting earlier scheduled for Thursday, 25th June, 2020 has been postponed. A new date for the meeting will be communicated to you.
“Any inconvenience this postponement might have caused is highly regrettable”, he said.
