Lack of consensus among the governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the fate of embattled national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, has forced a postponement of Tuesday’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party.
This was announced by chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, after the governors held a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja on Monday.
Briefing State House correspondents after the meeting that lasted less than 20 minutes, Bagudu said the meeting also discussed other issues outside the fate of Oshiomhole.
The governor did not however, announce a new date for the NEC meeting.
This decision may be a much needed lifeline for Oshiomhole, as the governors said that the postponement would enable them “resolve the issues” affecting the leadership of the party.
According to Bagudu: “We met with Mr. President, amongst other issues we discussed about the party and our appreciation to Mr. President for how he has given access to each of us individually and collectively.
“Amongst the issues we discussed was the resolution that the governors have taken to work together to resolve all the issues in the party.
“And also we sought Mr. President’s support to postpone the National Executive Council meeting that is scheduled for tomorrow until such a time that the governors are ready to report back.”
Asked if the President acceded to their request, the governor replied: “Yes, he’s so happy that we all agree to that.”
