Merriment was loud, palpable and spectacular on Tuesday when the Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu visited Iyuku-Uzairue in Etsako-West Local Government Area of the State to felicitate with the newly inaugurated Monarch, Chief Ilegieuno Bawakson Zekeriyau with the Deputy Governor urging Traditional Rulers to uphold and see  peace as a sine qua non for development.

Shaibu who is seeking to be the next Governor of Edo State specifically declared that he will implant peaceful coexistence as a philosophy of government adding that all of the people of Edo are one people with a common ancestry.

Expressday Newspaper learnt that the occasion was the celebration of  the installation of the Adorolo of Iyuku whose sobriquet, Okwigikugbe is a coinage from the name of the place -Iyuku and a  charge that the new Monarch administer the solid-mineral rich community with the orientation of togetherness and tranquility.

“There can be no meaningful development in an atmosphere of rancour, discord and dissatisfaction”, Philip Shaibu said.

“I implore the traditional ruler to reflect on his people’s peculiarities and use his position to build on the strengths that come from the diversities and common brotherhood”, he added

Investigations reveal that the celebration of the installation of Okwigikugbe and his Daudus is a culmination of a chieftaincy impasse which has stultified the development of Iyuku for a long time.

Of course most of the townspeople spoken to complained of enduring government neglect and hoped that Shaibu, as next Governor, will join hands with their new Monarch to give Iyuku her deserved share of the dividends of democracy.

While congratulating Chief Ilegieuno Bawakson Zekeriyau, the Edo State Deputy Governor enthused, “I wish to congratulate the royal father, the good people of Iyuku on this auspicious occasion. I pray that today will mark the dawn of a new era in your domain”.

Expressday Newspaper wouldn’t leave Iyuku without interacting with the new Traditional Ruler.  Beaming with smiles, looking royal and charismatic, Okwigikugbe told this Reporter that he feels fulfilled to mount the throne of his forebears to foster unity and growth.

“Okwigikugbe, my title, means bring Iyuku together.  Inshallah, that is what is going to happen”, he said.
