As the election of the national leadership of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), gets closer, the campaign by the key contestants to secure votes is becoming dirty.
This is even as the Presidential Campaign Organisation of Prof. Innocent Ujah, has faulted the allegation that its candidate was sacked when he was the Director-General, Nigeria Medical Research Institute (NIMR).
The allegation was raised by a group called Coalition Against Corruption (COACOR).
Speaking with journalists in Jos, the Director-General of Prof. Ujah Campaign Organisation (PUCO), Dr. Chris Piwuna, reiterated that what the COACOR considered as sack was a general disengagement of all heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) by the Federal Government in 2016.
“At the outset of this government, virtually most heads of MDAs under the Federal Ministries were disengaged.
“It was not only Prof Ujah, that was disengaged back then.
“It is curious, how the latest allegation is coming a few days to election.
“It is almost four years since Prof Ujah left NIMR, and now has been appointed by the same government to pioneer a new University is a mark of integrity and the will of God,” he said.
Piwuna insisted that Ujah, a Professor of over 20 years standing and over 40 years in medical practice, would bring the desired improvement in the health sector.
According to him, Ujah is a fellow of National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN), a fellow of International College of Surgeons (ICS), a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (UK) and a recipient of several fellowships, as well as a Member of the National Institute (mni), with many national and international honours awards.
He, therefore, urged members of the association to vote for Ujah, explaining that he is a man of integrity, transparency and accountability.
