The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) has become the first telecoms regulator in West Africa to carry out trials for the fifth-generation internet network technology (5G).
Trials have been carried out in Abuja, Calabar and Lagos.
According to Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice-Chairman of NCC, there would be a three-month trial period before actual approval and rollout in the country.
Asides faster internet speed, it is expected that 5G will reduce the cost of data, control machines, objects and devices.
