Nasarawa United football club at the weekend lost a player, who died on the pitch during a match in which it defeated Katsina United football club by two goals.
Chineme Martins, one of the players of the Nasarawa United, slumped at about 30 minutes into the first half, and died few minutes after he was rushed to the Dalhatu Specialist Hospital, Lafia.
Saddened by the death of the player, Governor Abdullahi Sule, who was at the stadium to cheer the players, sympathized with the immediate family of the deceased, Nasarawa United players and the Nigerian Football Federation over the unfortunate incident.
According to him, it was with a heavy heart losing a player at such critical time.
“We are saddened by the circumstances we found ourselves and at a time the players have demonstrated so much zeal in returning the state football club to the table on a good footing.
“I want to deeply share my sympathy with the family of the deceased player, the team and their teaming supporters, the state and the NFF over this sad moment despite the win against Katsina united,” the governor said.
