The Nasarawa State Police Command has inaugurated an 11- member State Community Policing Committee (SCPC).
The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police (CP), Bola Emmanuel Longe, reeled out five points to buttress the importance of setting up the SCPC during the event at the Command Headquarters in Lafia, on Thursday.
According to him, the SCPC will be involved in managing and coordinating the community policing programmes and foster security awareness and monitor progress on community policing.
He also disclosed that the SCPC will develop and unveil new approaches to community policing based on challenges, success stories and needs.
The CP added that the committee shall be meeting at least once in a month with all the local government chairmen and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the state.
Giving this background, the CP, therefore, solicited the cooperation of all residents of the state in the area of provision of information about strange appearances and movements of persons without clear identity in their environments.
The inauguration was attended by Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), the organised labour and traditional rulers.
The SCPC will be chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of operations, Umar Nadada.
