The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Nasarawa State chapter, has expressed its determination to support measures put in place by both the federal and state governments to halt the spread of Covid-19.
ALGON Chairman in Nasarawa State, Muazu Maifata, disclosed this in an interview in Lafia, on Thursday.
Maifata, who is also the Council Chairman of Lafia Local Government Area, revealed that ALGON is fully in support of both security and health measures put in place by the relevant authorities for the benefit of residents of the various local governments, the state and the nation at large.
According to him, apart from the measures put in place by the state government, he had ordered the decongestion of the central motor park which the state government had directed that all motor parks in the state capital be collapse into one central park.
“This is so because initially, we directed that all parks be collapse into one to enable us study and have the various unions in one place so as to monitor them.
“But when we discovered that the place was congested, I then sought the state governor’s consent to create additional parks to separate passengers going to northern Nigeria from the ones going to eastern part of the country.
“These measures have tremendously help us as a Council to stay free from recording a single case since the outbreak of the COVID-19.” he added.
Maifata also confirmed that amidst the lockdown of the state, security measures were also put in place to ensure that criminal elements don’t take advantage of the situation to rob resident of various communities.
