NANNM calls for CONHESS implementation in all states, deploys ICT

The Nigeria Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), has called for the full implementation of the CONHESS salary scheme for all its members in all the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The NANNM President, Michael Nnachi, made the call at a two-day National Executive Council (NEC) quarterly meeting in Abuja.

The meeting also witnessed the training of 300 of top members of the group including Chairmen and Secretaries from all the branches of the country in ICT.

He expressed concern that since the increase of the CONHESS salary scale, some states in the country were yet to implement it.

“In Just 2023, there was an increase in the CONHESS, it will be important to you to know that whereas some states have implemented it, other states are yet to implement it.

“We appeal to them to do so, so that it will not lead to other things.”

While saying that the training on Automated Management System training was to NANNM members in all parts of the country have register with ease, he explained that the it is also aimed to enabling the Association have the comprehensive authentic list of its members nation-wide.

“The training that you have seen is in progress, it started yesterday, is a kind of automated membership management system.

“In the automated management system, we try to update ourselves to remain IT compliant in such a way that our members at the grassroot level should be able to register at anywhere they are, not necessarily coming to the secretariat to do it.

The training is for members of the National Executive Council drawn from the Chairmen and the Secretaries of the 36 states and the FCT.

“We have over 300 members here participating in the training. We expect that the training will equally put in place reliable data concerning the numerical strength of nurses in Nigeria.

“Between now and the end of the month, we should be able to have a comprehensive numerical strength of the nurses and midwives in all the facilities in the country, which will equally help not only the Association but the government in terms of planning.”

The NANNM President also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the way and manner he is tackling challenges of the nation, especially, in the area of health and education.

He, however, insisted that there was the need for the federal government to give the Nigerian nurses what he described as an enhanced welfare.

“The federal government should give the nurses and midwives enhanced salary package. We believe that if that issue is addressed including other demands which we have already presented to the government, I think it will go a long way in reducing this issue of brain-drain popularly called the Japa syndrome.

“So, it is very critical that our welfare is given uppermost attention. We are not talking about the issue of insecurity which is affecting almost everywhere in the Nigerian nation.

“We believe that the federal government under President Tinubu, the way and manner he is addressing the issues, we believe that he will get it right. That is why we have given full support to his administration. Most importantly, the way he is addressing the education and health sectors, we are expecting the best from his administration.”
