The Media Initiative on Transparency in Extractive Industries (MITEI) has congratulated Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji on his appointment as the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), by President Muhammadu Buhari.
MEITI in a statement by its National Coordinator, Mr. Bassey Udo, in Abuja said it was delighted over Dr. Orji’s appointment.
“As a professional that has always been part of the transparency and accountability process in the extractive industries right from its inception until your most recent official role as the Director of Communications and Advocacy in the agency, METEI has no shred of doubt that your appointment is most deserving.
“We heartily congratulate you on this appointment and urge you to deploy your wealth of expertise and experience to build on the laudable foundation that your predecessor, Waziri Adio, laid towards deepening the transparency and accountability process in Nigeria”, Mr Udo stated.
He further stated that “We are very confident that Mr President did not make any mistake in your appointment. As a veteran journalist, guru and professional communication expert who has interfaced with the media in various capacities for many years, we believe you are the right man for the job.
“We commend Mr President for the excellent decision. We felicitate with you on this well-deserved appointment. We urge you to use your good offices to deepen NEITI’s interventions in the oil, gas and mining sectors and EITI process in Nigeria through a wider stakeholders’ engagement, outreach and advocacy through the media for the overall good of the industry.
“As the foremost network of extractive industries journalists in Nigeria, MITEI reiterates its commitment to work with you in your new assignment to ensure you succeed in helping NEITI realize its mandate of entrenching transparency and accountability in the management of the nation’s extractive resources”.
