Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, says the military will not succumb to pressures to undermine the sanctity of 2023 elections.
Speaking during a news briefing on Thursday at the State House, Abuja, the Defence Chief therefore, called on Nigerians to have implicit confidence in Nigerian military to be neutral during the polls.
He explained that while security personnel have been tempted with inducements, necessary measures are being put in place to ensure that security personnel heed President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent directive for all officers and men of the armed forces to maintain neutrality.
According to him, the personnel are being trained to be more professional while rules of engagement before, during and after the elections have been codified and distributed to them.
Meanwhile, he revealed that over 300,000 people have been freed from the hands of abductors and terrorists since 2014 while refugees who fled the Northeast zone due to the insurgency have started to return home.
