MEND threatens shutdown of oil businesses in N/Delta over Dokubo

The Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, (MEND); the body of Ex-Agitator Generals; and the Kalabari Indigenous Movement (KIM), have threatened forcefully stop oil business in the Niger Delta if the Federal Government fails to recall the suspended Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Prof. Charles Dokubo.

They also warned against the continued politicization of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

Speaking in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, a representative of MEND, Ares Michael, warned against impersonating the ex-agitators, insisting that the body would not tolerate those who use their names for personal gains.

According to him: “Those who want Dokubo out are the same persons that have been committing ills in the amnesty office. They want to return and continue.

“Without reservation, we say that the emergence of Prof. Dokubo liberated our people from the hands of gold diggers. The only sin Dokubo committed was that he refused to compromise his stand for fairness.”

On his part, a representative of KIM, Sepiribo Douglas, regretted that the sacking of Prof. Charles Dokubo, was improper, alleging that the sack was necessitated by individuals who do not want the success of the programme under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Douglas said: “However, we are grievously saddened and unhappy over the politicization of the amnesty programme. It has affected the training of the programme. The beneficiaries are at home now doing nothing.

“If this unhealthy politics that is affecting the programme for our youth continues and Dokubo is not recalled, we will have no option than to take over oil facilities and stop companies from operating till the issues are resolved.”
