Two siblings have been reported dead on Sunday following the lockdown order of the Nasarawa State government, which restricted movement of motor cycles and tricycles within urban areas of the State.

The unfortunate development occurred around Domain Road, near the Diamond/Access Bank, as the deceased, a 24-year-old and his 19-year-old brother, were aboard a motorcycle.

A source who confided in our correspondent, but refused his name to be mentioned, said that the two siblings met their death when the personnel of Nasarawa State Youth Employment Scheme (NAYES), a youth scheme of the Nasarawa state government, chased them with the intention to arrest them for violating the restriction order.

“This is how these two young children of a parent died, as they were conveying fuel on the bike, they from the bike as a result of the chase, it ignited fire and they got burnt”, said the source.

When contacted the General Manager NAYES , Mr Labaran Maina, denied the allegation leading to the death of the two, as according to him, the personnel of the NAYES) were not responsible for the death of the two siblings.

He said “I was undertaking an assignment at Keana, over the planned evacuation, when the news got to me. In fact, I can lead you to the scene where the accident happened and also show you where my personnel were standing, which is about 40 meters away from where this young people crashed on the bike and got burnt.

“On my finding, I was reliably told that no body chased them, the police and the civil defense operatives also confirmed this.

“And to add to it, since the lockdown order and we are listed as among those to compliment the efforts of the conventional securities, I instructed my men not to carry sticks or whips against any person, but to be strict on ensuring that enforcement was not compromising”, the GM stated.

Meanwhile, the parents of the deceased have expressed dislike and threatened to seek justice, while pleading that the state government come to their aid and bring to book those who caused the death of their two young ones.

But the Nasarawa state police has said it would investigate what led to the death of the siblings.
