The remains of Mallam Abba Kyari, the late Chief of Staff to the President, have been buried at Gudu cemetery after funeral prayers at his residence.
A presidency statement soon after the burial that was witnessed by many people, pointed out that the appropriate social distancing guidelines and health protocols in view of the spread of Covid-19, would continue to be followed.
The statement issued by Senior presidential media assistant, Garba Shehu, said: “As advised by the protocols put in place by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Federal Ministry of Health on social distancing, the burial marks the end of all ceremonies and there will be no condolence visits to family and the Presidency.
“Well-wishers and all other Nigerians are instead advised to pray for the repose of the soul of the late Chief of Staff.
“A condolence register will be opened at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) from Sunday for those who are able to use the window permitted for movement by the FCT administration.”
Kyari died in a Lagos hospital three weeks after he tested positive for the Coronavirus disease, upon his return from an official trip to Germany.
He is the first high ranking government official to die from the disease for which 493 Nigerians have so far tested positive, and 17 deaths recorded.
