The Kano State Coordinator of the Response Team on COVID-19, Dr. Tijjani Hussain, has debunked rumours making the rounds that the Covid-19 testing laboratory in the state has been closed.

In a statement, on Wednesday, he said that the laboratory was temporarily shut down for fumigation. This, is he stressed, is the global best practice.

He also insisted that the laboratory has enough kits and other consumables required for its operation.

Dr. Hussain, therefore, urged the general public to disregard the rumour as it is unfounded and totally false.

According to the statement: “The Kano State Coronavirus testing lab has not been closed. It also has enough testing kits. What happened was that it was only temporarily shut to be fumigated.

“Coronavirus testing labs everywhere around the world are clinically and ethically shut to be fumigated after some tests.

“They are, as ethics provide, shut during the fumigation hours and 72 hours after. Normally this is part of the routine.

“So the office of the Kano State Coordinator Response Team on COVID-19, urged the general public to disregard the rumour circulating about the testing lab being closed due to lack of testing kits.

“That is not true. And any similar news coming from any other sources are not true.”
