The Item community in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State has been in celebration following the conferment of the prestigious honour/title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on another one of its sons, Dr. Soni Uwadiogbu Ajala.

He was one of the distinguished legal luminaries formally conferred with the title by the representative of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) at a ceremony in Abuja, on Monday.

Dr. Ajala was called to the Nigeria Bar in 1991, after graduating from then Imo (now Abia) State University in 1990. He then obtained the LL.M degree from University of Lagos in 1996.

In 2007, he obtained the Ph.D degree in Law with bias in Fiscal Constitutionalism from the University of Abuja.

By that feat, Dr. Ajala became the first Item person to obtain a doctorate degree in Law and the second from Abia North after late Dr. Nwakanma Okoro.

Between 2000 to 2003, Dr. Ajala served as the Principal Secretary to the President of the Nigerian Senate, the first Abia person ever to be appointed to such office.

Dr. Ajala has now made another history in Item community as the first person to be elevated to the elite rank of SAN on the basis of court room advocacy at all the levels of courts of record up to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The other earlier two SANs from Item, namely; Professor Joe Irukwu and Chief J. U. K. Igwe made the elite rank as academics/authors of standard text books in Law.
