The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates contesting in the upcoming Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council election.
The Commission had earlier published the personal particulars of candidates who emerged from party primaries on August 18, 2025. According to INEC, a total of 17 political parties submitted their candidates’ details (Form EC9) before the deadline of 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025. This followed the conclusion of the window for candidate withdrawal and substitution.
In a message signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun and made available to ExpressDay Newspaper on Monday, INEC confirmed that the final list has now been made public.
“The full list of candidates, including details such as party affiliation, age, gender, and academic qualifications, has been uploaded on the INEC website and social media platforms for public access,” the statement read.
INEC also emphasized that, in accordance with Section 34(1) of the Electoral Act, no further withdrawal or replacement of candidates will be permitted, except in the event of the death of a candidate or running mate before Election Day.
