The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) today deregistered 74 political parties, as announced by the chairman of the Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, at a press briefing in Abuja.
He also announced dates for the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states holding later in the year.
According to him, Edo election will hold on September 19, 2020 while that of Ondo will hold on October 10, 2020.
With the de-registration exercise over, only 18 political parties will participate in future elections in the country.
The deregistered parties were axed for not meeting the requirements necessary for further recognition.
