Even on social grounds, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is proving that it is a catalyst for development as the electoral body have celebrated womenfolk in it’s press corp on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.
As ExpressDay learnt, this appreciation did not exclude female members of staff and other female members of the citizenry, “who by the way, constitute the bulwark of the voting population that INEC administers”, as Ibrahim Abu an analyst, stressed in an interaction.
A news release signed by the Chairman of IPC Segun Ojumu and made available to ExpressDay stated in part: “On this International Women’s Day, we extend our heartfelt appreciation and admiration to the incredible women among you. Your unwavering dedication to delivering truth, fostering transparency, and illuminating the path to informed citizenship is a vital pillar in the edifice of our democracy.
Continuing he saw women generally as “backbone of progress”.
“Throughout history, women have been the backbone of progress, often moving the world forward not with loud proclamations, but with the quiet strength of their convictions. You, the women of the INEC Press Corps, are no exception. Day in day out, you demonstrate remarkable resilience, professionalism, and courage by ensuring that the public remains connected to the the vanguard of our electoral processes.
While expressing profound respect for the womenfolk on the occasion of the global commemoration, he avvered, “our role is not only about reporting the news but also about making society to be duly informed such that voices are heard and votes are made to counts.
“In the face of challenges, you persevere, armed with the power of the pen and the lens, to cast light on stories that might otherwise remain in the shadows.
“Today, we celebrate not just your individual accomplishments, but also the collective impact you have on safeguarding the integrity of our electoral system.
