Ijaw Community Association Abuja and Northern Nigeria, on Sunday, in Asokoro, Abuja elected a new executive committee to pilot its affairs.

The ceremony which started around 3pm was spiced up with cultural display that the Ijaw people are known for.

While giving his speech after the inauguration, the new Chairman of the group, the new chairman, Honourable Alagba Ebifemowei, noted that the Ijaw tribe was the fourth largest tribe in Nigeria and that they need to crystalize their togetherness to optimise the gains of the association.

He pledged to carry everyone along and use every opportunity as the new chairman to move the group forward and contribute to bettering the lot of their people.

The new chairman charged his team and Ijaws all over Nigeria to see the election as the dawn of a new era.

He advocated the need for their kith and kin to eschew bickering and imbibe love for one another, saying that he will strive at all times to protect the interest of his people.

Ebifemowei’s predecessor, Comrade Success Jack emphasized earlier in an interaction with ExpressDay that the Ijaws are spread across many more States than Bayelsa, Rivers, Edo, Delta, Ondo.

“If we had a polling unit in this (Abuja) town, there is no way you will not come and talk to Ijaw community for their votes”, Comrade Jack said while giving an account of his stewardship

Popular opinion during the election harped on love and oneness.

Members opined that any pro-Ijaw association should refrain from seeing itself as competing with any other sister organization.

“We must be our brothers keeper. the idea of if I don’t get, no one should get it should stop”,
a member posited while supporting the new chairman’s statement.

The event which lasted till evening witnessed the sharing of many good will messages after the new executive members were sworn in.
