Irked by the continued incarceration of a Journalist, Agba Jalingo, the Igbo National Council (INC) has called on the National Universities Commission (NUC) to probe the academic credentials of Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River state.
The INC’s President, Chilos Godsent made the call while addressing newsmen in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Godsent warned that it would soon declare Ayade a “persona non grata in the 35 states of the federation plus the federal Capital Territory”, for failing to act as a Professor.
This is even as he threatened that other organizations will join in a protest against Ayade in “Calabar this January, which includes Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), United Action for Democracy (UAD), Take it Back Movement, Civil Rights Council (CRC) and many others”.
Godsent said the Cross River State-based Journalist, Agba Jalingo had done nothing wrong to deserve the treatment he has received from Governor Ayade, declaring that “we will be compelled to declare Gov Benedict Ayade persona non grata in 35 states of Nigeria and FCT Abuja till Comrade Agba Jalingo is unconditionally released.
Further, he said: “We are dismayed to hear that the former Judge handling the Agba Jalingo matter traveled with the case file to God knows where. In view of the above, we hereby call on the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to blacklist Gov Benedict Ayade and the entire Cross River State government and parastatals till Comrade Agba Jalingo who is a fellow journalist is unconditionally released from detention”.
Godsent added that “we also call on the National University Commission (NUC) to probe the Professorship of Gov Benedict Ayade because his conducts are colossal embarrassment to the professorship title. We also call on the Police Service Commission (PSC) to set-up a Panel of Enquiry to investigate the activities of AIG Austin Agbonlahor while he was serving as the Commission of Police in Cross River State”.
Meanwhile, INC has called on the authorities of the Nigerian Police to investigate activities of AIG Austin Agbonlahor while he was serving as the Commissioner of Police in Cross River state.
The group called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to intervene in Jalingo”s case, in other to save the judicial system in Cross River State from being hijacked by desperate politicians in the State.
