The military has explained how it was able to kill the notorious bandit, Terwase Akwaza, also known as ‘Gana’.
It would be recalled that Gana had been on the wanted lists of security agencies and the Benue state government since 2016.
He was, however, killed by troops of the Nigerian Army at a border between Benue and Nasarawa States.
Briefing newsmen in Doma, Nasarawa State, the Commander 4 Special Forces Command, Major General Moundhey Gadzama, disclosed that Gana was killed during an exchange of fire in an operation by operatives of the OPERATION AYEM APKATUMA 3.
He explained that the troops received intelligence on the movement of the dreaded bandit along Gbese – Gboko – Makurdi road and swung into action by blocking the road.
General Moundhey Gadzama stated that the troops engaged Gana and his gang in a gun battle which resulted to his death.
General Moundhey Gadzama also said the corpse of the late bandit had been deposited in the mortuary at an undisclosed hospital.
Items recovered during the operation, according to him, include five AK 47, pistols, three Pump Action Guns, Locally Fabricated Machine Guns and Revolver Pistols among others.
It would further be recalled that recent strategic operations launched by the military have yielded remarkable result as it has destroyed a notorious hideout of the bandits in the Toto Local Government area of Nasarawa state.
Following these operations, over 500 family members of the bandits including their children were captured. They have, however, been repatriated to their acclaimed states of origin.
