The Nigeria Farmers’ Group and Corporative Society (NFGCS), has disclosed that it has concluded plans to establish skills acquisition training centre for youths in Nasarawa State.
It disclosed this during the commissioning of two multi million naira projects at Ga’ate, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The National Coordinator of the Group, Mr Retson Tedheke, disclosed that the firm will engage 50 youths from each of the 13 local government areas of the State.
The skills acquisition centre, according to him, would be named after Gov Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, for his moral support for the Group.
Tedheke further disclosed that a dam and an electricity project have been executed by the NFGCS in Ga’ate, Kokona Local Government Area.
According to him, the Group has empowered 10, 000 farmers with resources for farming and off-taking of produce.
He said that the Group has embarked on and completed the electricity project linking the Ga’ate community to the national grid and installed 100KVA and 500KVA transformers for Ga’ate community and the NFGCS integrated farms respectively.
“The farm also build a 3 kilometer Dam project that would address water challenges faced by cattle herders in the area as well as fish farming and serve about 17 communities in and around Ga’ate community,” he added.
Tedheke revealed that presently, the farm produces 3 to 5 trailer loads of Ga’ate Gold rice sold across the country.
He, however, appealed to the state government to assist the farm in the areas of standing as guarantor for funding opportunities, as well as provision of infrastructure such as road and ensuring security at the facility.
On his part, Governor Abdullahi Sule, of Nasarawa State, reiterated the commitment of his administration to continue to encourage and promote Public Private Partnership (PPP) and investments in agriculture, through the provision of enabling environment.
According to the Governor, his administration will continue to evolve policies and entrench collaborative approach to woo development partners to the state in order to engender a macroeconomic society through mechanized agriculture and agro-allied industries.
Engr Sule added that government will continue to collaborate with development partners, particularly in the area of capacity building for youths in the state under the Youths Agricultural Empowerment Programme.
