In his administration’s determination to deal with insurgency, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has donated vehicles, motor cycles and other equipment worth over N147 million to the 177 Army Battalion based in Keffi.
The Governor hoped that this would help the soldiers combat banditry, armed robbery and other violent crimes in Toto and Nasarawa Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the State.
The Governor who made donation of the items on Monday in Lafia, said the exercise was necessitated due to the determination of his government to tackle criminal elements despites the present situation where COVID-19 is ravaging the all world.
According to the governor, the items were donated for the use of the newly established military camps at Kanyehu in Toto and Mararaba Udege in Nasarawa local government areas..
He pointed out that he would give N100 million each month for the sustenance of the two camps, in addition to other items.
Sule listed the items donated to include three Hilux pick-up vans, 15 motorcycles, 100 mattresses, 12 hand-held radio sets, 10 Tecno handsets and five generators.
He added that he had also approved construction of four bullet-proof observation posts, two in each camp, one solar powered borehole in every camp and installation of solar powered lights around the camps.
Governor Sule explained that despite the challenges of COVID-19, his government wanted to make a statement that it would not shy away from its primary responsibility of protecting lives and property in the State.
The governor used the opportunity to express gratitude to all the security agencies, including the military, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps for their efforts towards safeguarding the state.
Responding, Lt. Col. Musa Aliyu, Commandant of the Brigade (177 battalion), expressed gratitude to governor Sule for the support and promised that they would not relent until the state is free from criminals.
