Ambassador Ibrahim Gambari, the new Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, has arrived Aso Rock Villa this morning to meet the President and assume duties.
Although there is still no official confirmation of the new appointment, highly placed sources have said that Gambari, who was Buhari’s Minister of External Affairs in 1984/85, is said to have been picked to replace late Abba Kyari, who died of Covid-19 last month.
Gambari was excitedly received on arrival at the Presidential Villa by Senior Presidency officials including the Director of Protocol, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed and the Permanent Secretary, State House, Mallam Tijani Umar.
Others on hand to receive him were the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs, Office of the Vice President, Amb. Abdullahi Gwari, as well as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garuba Shehu.
Gambari was ushered into the Aso Chambers of the Villa from where Buhari is expected to chair a virtual meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), the first since he imposed a lockdown and restriction of movements and official duties in March to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
