The burial rites of Chief Williams Aiyevbugie Idahagbon who died on April 19, 2024 will commence on August 29 and end on September 1 with a thanks giving service at Winner’s Chapel, Ekenhuan Road Benin City, Edo State.
The departed Idahagbon who hailed from Ite and Ikoro in Ovia North-East local government area, was a soldier, public servant and community leader whose love for his children and extended family was buoyant.
Sharing fond memories about his father with ExpressDay Newspaper on Saturday, one of his children, and former Attorney-General/Commissioner for Justice in Edo State, Henry Idahagbon, averred that in the estimation of his late father, his children were kids, true to a widely held view that no matter how old a child is, he remains a child in the eyes of his parents.
“He was caring and overly protective.
He would call me around 6pm and asked if I was home. If my response is no, he would ask me to start going home asking if I do not realize that it was dangerous to be out late ?”, the lawyer and federal commissioner in the federal civil service commission told this reporter in an interview.
According to Henry Idahagbon, who was also a former chairman of Egor local government area of Edo State, this trait of his father endured till the twilight of his sojourn on Earth.
“This he used to do as recently as two years ago. My Dad had time for his kids. He was 100% involved in everything we did”, he said.
Investigations reveal that the departed patriarch who was 86, lived a fulfilling life. He gave birth to 10 other children. Out of this number, eight are women and most of the children are excelling in their respective careers in Europe and North America.Also around to further the legacies of late William Idahagbon are 33 grand children and five great grand children.
