Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Prince Uchenna Secondus has expressed sadness over the struggle for the structure of the party in Rivers but maintained that governor Siminialaye Fubara is the leader of the party in the state.
Secondus who spoke with some journalists in Abuja at the PDP headquarters over the weekend said that several investors and businesses are leaving the state because of the tussle.
Secondus condemned the recent increase in the price of petroleum product, lamenting that the situation has compounded the economic woes of vulnerable Nigerians.
On the state of the party in the state, the former PDP boss said “there are no two captains in a ship. Governor Fubara is our governor and the leader of our state. Whatever that is happening in PDP in Rivers state will be resolved very soon. Governor Fubara is the leader of the state, and is the governor of the state”.
When told that some PDP stakeholders do not believe that Fubara is the leader of the party in Rivers he replied thus: “They know the truth and I believe that God will help us and make them to back down, because the rancour is unnecessary. I feel very pained about the state because business and investors are running away. So they should tone it down. That’s my general advice. We should tone it down so that the state can witness progress under the able leadership of Governor Fubara”.
He lamented that the country is gravitating towards a failed state. He said that the hardship Nigerians pass through has been compounded by the recent increase in the pump price of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS).
According to him, “All the indices are pointing to a failed state and democracy. All we need is prayers for our country, because the masses are in trouble. They are suffering, the hardship is too much. Just a few hours ago, the pump price of petrol, has been raised to the highest level now, which is N1,100 and in some places, N1,200. The situation is biting harder and harder every other day”.
Secondus expressed confidence on the ability of the judiciary to dispense justice but added that a lot of reforms needed to be carried out in that sector.
He said that the judiciary “is one arm of government that you can’t do without. You can also not do without hospitals. So either you go to court, or some people will take you to court. Some you may get right, some you may not get right.
“My feeling is that there should be improvements and reforms. We will get there one day when the situation will be perfect. It may not be in my favour, but all the same, it is that we all are looking for, an improvement and reform in the judiciary”.
Secondus had a strained relationship with former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike leading to his suspension from his ward after which his tenure as National Chairman of the party abruptly ended. Secondus had to pass through years of legal battle to recover his membership of the party.
