Former Head of State, Ernest Shonekan dies at 85

Former Interim Head of Interim National  Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, has died at the age of 85.

Shonekan, who succeeded the military
junta of General Ibrahim Babangida during the turbulent period, died in the early hours on Tuesday, January 11, 2021.

He was said to have died in a hospital in Lekki, Lagos.

Shonekan, a native of Ogun State, was the Head of Interim Government between August 26 and November 17, 1993 before he was subsequently, overthrown in a bloodless coup led by late General Sani Abacha.
