After unrelenting pressure from Nigerians to be addressed by their leader over the Coronavirus pandemic, President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to broadcast to them this evening.
A presidency press statement this afternoon disclosed that the broadcast will be by 7pm on the government owned national television and radio networks, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).
The statement issued by presidential media adviser, Femi Adesina, urged other broadcast stations in the country to hook up to the NTA at that time.
According to Adesina: “President Muhammadu Buhari will broadcast to the nation Sunday, March 29, 2020 at 7pm.
“Television, radio and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the broadcast.”
Adesina had earlier in a television programme appearance said that Buhari had declined to address the nation on Covid-19 pandemic because it was not his style.
He stressed that Buhari had instead chosen the style of appointing relevant ministers and government officials to give Nigerians updates on the disease fast spreading across the country.
