A new Commissioner of Police (CP) has been posted to Rivers the State Police Command. He is Joseph Gobum Mukan.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, gave the order on Friday.
This is obviously a fallout of the face-off between The Federal Government and Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, who arrested and detained two pilots and passengers of an aircraft that flew into the State despite the Covid-19 lockdown in place.
The governor said he was not consulted and has refused to release the detainees as he foes ahead to prosecute them for violating the State’s laws on Covid-19.
The Federal Government has insisted however, that the flight had due clearance from relevant federal authorities and that Wike had overstepped his bounds.
According to a statement by the Police Force Spokesman, Frank Mba, two other officers have also been redeployed to other formations.
The posting and redeployments are with immediate effect.
According to the statement, CP Dandaura Mustapha is now Provost Force Headquarters, Abuja. while CP Musa Adze, takes over as CP Anti-Fraud Unit.
The IGP charged the affected Commissioners of Police to diligently and professionally discharge their duties in their new areas of responsibilities.
