
The Federal Government has concluded plans to collaborate with the Developing Eight Organisations for Economic Cooperation (D-8s) and Health Partnership and Social Protection Initiative
(HeSPI), in an effort to rehabilitate the health sector.
The Minister for Health, Dr.Osagie Ehanire, disclosed this when a delegation of D-8s, headed by its Secretary General, Ambassador Dato’ ka Jaafar ku Shaari , paid him a courtesy visit in his office, in Abuja.
Dr. Ehanire reiterated that it was a step in the right direction because “health is the cornerstone of human capital development” adding that the collaboration will help in building the health sector and foster relationship as well as exchange ideas.
Speaking, the Secretary General of the Developing Eight (D-8s), Ambassador Dato’ Kujaafar Kushaari, explained that the D-8s is a formation aimed at economic cooperation and improvement of member states founded in 1997.
Member states, according to him, included Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
He further noted that the visit was to felicitate with the Minister on his new appointment as Minister of Health, and encourage him to follow the path of his predecessor in supporting Health Partnership and Social Protection Initiative.
On his part, the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, while acknowledging the D-8s’ commitment towards fostering economic development and cooperation within member states, applauded the Ambassador and his delegates for coming to Nigeria.
