The Federal Executive Council (FEC) at its virtual meeting on Wednesday approved contracts totalling N26.06 billion for the Ministries of Works and Housing; Aviation; and Justice.
Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, told newsmen that approvals for emergency works as well as complete work on the Gadan Zaima-Zuru-Gamji Road in Kebbi State, were approved at the aggregated cost of N11.74 billion.
The first set of the contract was for emergency works on over seven kilometers of the road in 2019 at N1.14billion, while the same contractor is to now complete the balance of 55 kilometers at cost of N10.58billion.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, disclosed that FEC approved contract for the upgrade and refurbishment of the safe tower equipment in four airports at Lagos, Kano, Abuja and Port Harcourt; at the cost of N13.12 billion.
“This is in two parts. First component which is a foreign component is €28,489,565m. The naira component is N3.491,504,488.31. There will be 7.5% added VAT. It will be for completion period of 12 months”, he explained.
The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami, announced the approval of FEC for the acquisition of a 156-room complex in Abuja at a cost of N1.19 billion for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The structure is to be bought from Messrs Chachangi Airlines Nigeria Ltd., and the cost is inclusive of 7.5 % VAT, with a delivery period of four weeks.
The property consists of 156 rooms in a three-wing two-storey building on Plot No. 1123-1129 Cadastral Zone 0607 at Aviation Village, Airport Road, Abuja; near the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) building close to the Airforce Base along Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Road.
“The necessity for the acquisition of the property is informed by the fact that ever since NDLEA moved from Lagos to Abuja, the officers of the agency were scattered all over the place.
“Then, the need arose for the government to acquire a befitting accommodation to give them (NDLEA staff) an opportunity to have concentration as it relates to their duties and services”, the Minister said.
